Toothwort

There seemed to be some sunshine this afternoon so we headed off to Howe Ridding, only to encounter a blizzard of hailstones on the way! By the time we arrived there were drifts of them and the temperature had dropped to 5C.
In the parking area we met one of Robs contacts and wife, and dog trapped in the boot which was refusing to unlock! After being unable to offer any useful suggestions we left them to it.
The toothwort appears regularly at this time of year, it is a parasitic plant with no chlorophyll, I think it looks rather unpleasant!
Part of the reason for going was to listen out for our first Chiff Chaff of the year, but the weather had silenced every bird. However, the wild daffodils were looking lovely and on the route through Poole Bank we encountered a very strange sight, a turkey wandered around in the fields.see extra! It walked ahead of us back to the houses and joined up with a flock of hens who were roaming around, so I guess it lives there. It’s certainly big enough to look after itself, and Pepper stayed well clear.
