Route de la Rocque!
Travelling to L'Eree this morning on an errand I drove down Route de la Rocque which passes along the top of a natural shingle sea defence and is bounded on both sides by nature reserves, primarily I believe for migrating and local birdlife.
Hence the pebble beach you see is best avoided to allow the birds to rest and nest etc without interruption.
The tower you can see in the distance is Fort Saumarez which is a Napoleonic fort upon which the 2nd world war occupying forces built a concrete lookout tower. Ultimately neither fort saw any hostile action as such.
The tower you see and it's environs is now an open market residence which I understand is for sale so, queue up guys if you want a home with a nice view, considerably out of my price range I have to say...click HERE for details!
For a litlle history of Fort Saumarez you can click HERE
To the right of the fort is Lihou Island and you can see the house on it though from this angle you can't see it is an island. For some details of the little island which is reached on foot at certain low tides, click HERE
I was particularly drawn to this blip by the bay but also by the beautiful colour of the lichen on the rock in the foreground.
Hope your Tuesday is going well!
