Super sand
Another science-themed blip! This sand is special because it's been smothered in a very hydrophobic coating. This makes it repel water. The silvery colour you can see between the sand and the water droplet arises from a layer of air between the two, acting like a mirror.
You can make your own super sand by melting wax in a pot with ordinary sand, apparently. Or you could order your own on-line!
I illuminated this shot with the trusty old UV lamp, as I suspected the sand might be fluorescent. As you can see, I wasn't disappointed!
Credit goes to Dave for letting me borrow his sand. He's even more super than the sand is.
