A chicken flew down the river

A lot of people are scared to learn or speak a new language which is a shame because most people are sweet and understanding when you get something wrong. A man saw my camera and told me a chicken flew down the river. Did I expect a chicken? No, but I love that he was giving me notice a large bird I might find interesting was down the river and I was delighted to tell him I found it.

Mental note:  slugs are not the most popular photography subjects. ;-)

What I learned today:  not only have lithium-ion battery prices plummeted, just as fast as solar panel prices plummeted, they've dropped by 97% since they were first commercially introduced in 1991. But wait! There's more! Companies weren't choosing lithium-ion because it was a cheap technology, they chose it because it was portable. Over this time, the battery density has also improved - they are becoming more portable.

This has huge ramifications not just for the car you'll drive (electric) but for the source of the electricity powering that car (solar and wind) because it means batteries can store power more affordably every year.

Right now, there are some ancient, filthy, expensive plants that only run when we have a peak need for power. Battery power will displace them. We'll fill the batteries when we have solar and wind, and use them instead of the polluting plants - and at the rate the economics are going, they'll be cheaper.

Thank you for all the warm fuzzies yesterday.
