New apartments going up in Canterbury. The pictures on the hoarding suggest a stylish curved white building tumbling towards the Aegean, but the nearest water is the Cooks River, Sydney’s most altered and polluted waterway. But there is a kebab shop at the service station opposite.

Extra is an eastern great egret flying up the river.
