The Cinema Museum (former Lambeth Workhouse)

Today I visited the Cinema Museum which is housed in the former Lambeth Workhouse. 
The Museum was founded in 1986 by Ronald Grant and Martin Humphries from their own private collection of cinema history and memorabilia. 
Ronald in his early life worked as a projectionist in Aberdeenshire and then for the Donald chain of cinemas in Aberdeen.  Later he returned to Aberdeen and found that the 1930's cinemas were closing down or being demolished and the Donalds had a lot of memorabilia to offload. 
So Ronald made the Donalds an offer they could not refuse and packed a lorry load or two and took the booty down to London. 
The Museum was originally established in  Raleigh Hall in Brixton but moved to Dugard Way in Lambeth in 1998. The building used to be a workhouse and it itself has a link to cinema history as Charlie Chaplin lived there as a child when his mother faced destitution. 
The museum runs a programme of talks and events and (outside the pandemic) is open by appointment for tours. 

Many of the exhibits relate to items from cinemas in Aberdeen (eg the Majestic and Capitol) and as boy I used to visit these cinemas regularly - so they were instantly recognisable and brought back fond memories.
