When Doves Cry
These Collared Doves are regular visitors to our garden - though I’m not sure for how much longer. The empty space they are both staring at used to house a bird table where they could find a plentiful supply of food.
Unfortunately, said table finally succumbed at the weekend to the ravages of time and being outside, and is now just a pile of rotten wood at the bottom of the wheelie bin. Presumably the doves had not called here for a couple of days and their puzzlement at not finding the expected feast was quite palpable.
The photo is not of the best quality because I had to snatch this shot through the window before they flew off again - which they did a few seconds later. A new bird table is on the cards once lockdown lifts so they’ll have to find food elsewhere for a few weeks.
By any standards we are now in spring. I just wish someone would tell the weather as it has been cold, wet and miserable all day. This day a year ago, we stayed inside because we’d been told to. Today, we stayed inside because we really didn’t want to venture out! But Mrs C hosted a Zoom meeting for her WI and I did some weight training. A year ago I’d never heard of Zoom and had only ever worked out in a gym. Amazing how quickly one adapts to changing circumstances...
