Reflecting on the next trip
We had our usual wander down to the seafront this afternoon – a dull day with a pretty chilly wind. I had a look around the North Pier, but nothing much was happening. I was rather amused to see this sign behind the glass of the Tourist Information Office ‘Please wait here until called inside for assistance’. I think you might be waiting for some time! It’s hard to imagine when all will be normal again and we can visit islands, go on boat cruises and generally wander where we wish!
I’ve been planning for some time to begin the huge job of going through my old slides and scanning those I want to keep. Yesterday Mrs M and I brought all the big boxes down from the loft and sat them on the dining room table. I’ve begun to take all the slide boxes out so that I can put them into roughly date order, but although I had some idea just how many there would be I was still surprised. There must be many, many thousands of them, 10,000 maybe, and the ones I had a quick look at seemed to be in good condition, going back to the early 1970s. I found a box dated 1965 and they looked a bit mouldy. I hope we’ll not be having a dinner party in the near future, for the next year, I mean!! My scanner takes a strip of four at a time! I suppose once I’ve completed the job, if I ever do, then I’ll have to throw them all away. It seems such a shame, but nobody’s going to want them. Most of my life thrown away!
