Penguin in a Wheelchair
My Dear Princess, Loulou and Fellows,
Gromit is still fighting with managers. I don't wish to bore you with the details, so here's the short version.
To promote the use of te reo* in the company, Gromit wishes to give animal names to all the company rooms. And then every room will be given a picture of that animal.
BUT marketing manager says we have to use illustrations, not photos, as these are more consistent with marketing.
BUT illustrations cost x10 a photo.
BUT marketing says manager we can't justify spending that much on illustrations.
But marketing manager says we can't go with the cheaper option of photos because that is inconsistent with....
You see where this is going.
So this is why Gromit is FEEE-YUMING at the moment. But she continues to fight the good fight. She told us she held a meeting with a senior manager who 100% agrees with her.
"And LOOK!" she told him. "Marketing says we can't use photos! There are PHOTOS all over this BROCHURE! Produced by MARKETING!"
She then noted there was a picture of a man in a wheelchair, illustrating diversity, on the back of the door.
"Look!" she said. "A picture of a man in a wheelchair! And I can't have a picture of a [VERY BAD WORD] penguin?!???"
"Maybe if the penguin was in a wheelchair?" suggested the senior manager.
So she felt like she was getting somewhere today, with this senior manager behind her. Only to find ANOTHER senior manager, who was previously backing her, now wobbling.
We have an emergency meeting of all the senior managers on Thursday. I hope she wins the day. What she's proposing is now starting to get "regular" non-managerry people excited. It would be good to pull it off.
In other news, she sent a lovely email to my BA manager today about me. You may be wondering who this person is, that she is talking about.
You have to bear in mind, she is very excitable. It is not a realistic Scottish privilege to work with me. It is an excitable South African privilege. But it was still a lovely sentiment to read.
I'm feeling quite valued at the moment. It is a weird feeling.
