cake cooling

Following neatly on from yesterday's blip, an almost disaster this morning due to 'leaving things to the last minute'. 

Having arranged to meet J mid-morning in the community garden with a birthday cake, the time to set off came and went - and still the cake wasn't ready. (Baking it last night might have been more sensible.....).
M set off with flasks of coffee and I kept an eye on the stubbornly slow cake. Eventually the knife came out clean, but of course it was too hot to carry straight from the oven.
 
Hence the rapid cake cooling stand in the garden - with me hovering at the back door watching in case the birds spotted it and thought it was their birthday!

A bit of a stressful start to the day, but actually it all ended well. The cake was delicious - and very nice to eat it warm on this slightly chilly morning.
