Whooper swans

Went for a early 4.5 mile walk with a friend - bit misty but we saw and heard lots of skylarks.
Back at home by 10:30 and had a quick brunch intending to do some gardening.
I checked the sightings on birdguides and saw 63 whooper swans had landed on a local sand quarry so nipped down there expecting them to have gone but was really pleased to see them still there.
Chatted for hours to a number of different birders and waited to see if they took off on their migration northwards. That would have been a real spectacle but they were still there when I was too cold to stay any longer.
Photo doesn't do them justice but they were a long way over the other side ....
