Poor Impressions
My Dear Princess, Loulou and Fellows,
Loulou and Caro went out to K-Mart last night. Caro was very excited. I'm trying to think how to describe K-Mart to you.
I suppose it's a bit like an Argos catalogue, but all in one store. There isn't one in Paraparaumu, but there is one in Porirua. The pair made a special K-Mart date and everything.
This left me to my own devices in the house. I was annoyed because I'd recently discovered a whole new TREASURE TROVE of trivia about the film "Witchfinder General" which meant I had to re-record extensive sections of the podcast. So K-Mart Night seemed like the ideal opportunity.
This episode requires me to do impressions of movie stars. Most notably Vincent Price.
To be honest, I don't really do an impression of him. You can't mimic that voice, so I just do a very DRAMATIC, actor-ey voice. I also have to do an impression of producer Tony Tenser, who was this Arthur Daley wheeler-dealer type. That might sound easy, but my cockney accent does have a tendency to wander off to Australia at any point.
Sometimes I add a Sid James laugh in there too, just to keep me on track.
I also had to do an impression of an actor called Robert Flemyng, who was a big, bellow-ey type of fellow. Sort of like Brian Blessed. So I recorded his bits, wandering around the house waving my arms about.
I really helps. I don't know why, it just does.
Finally, there's Alan Bennett. I enjoyed doing his voice most of all. Firstly, because it was easy for a Northerner. Secondly because I took the opportunity to make him sound as wet and rubbish as possible. It's not that I have anything against Alan Bennett per se, it is actually my secret revenge on Roger the Nob, who sounded EXACTLY like that, all the time.
But only you and I know this. And we shall LAUGH at the episode. Cruelly.
