The famine's over...
Hey, Sleepyduck, who do you think you are? Mr Smith?
You can tell that blipping has taken over your life when the act of taking a particular photograph makes you think of someone you only know through their blips...
That's what I was thinking as I took this picture. A moment later it occurred to me how ironic and perverse it would be for me to choose this image of religious hatred as my blip on this Easter Sunday. So, being an ironic and perverse kind of person, here it is.
This is something of a companion to Thursday's blip and was taken nearby. I'm also aware that my last four blips capture my ambivalence towards Glasgow: Friday and yesterday show a couple of things I love about this place, Thursday and today a couple of things I hate (or, rather, one thing I hate...).
A little background for those of you fortunate enough to be unfamiliar with sectarian hatred in Glasgow. A lot of Irish Catholics came across to the UK during the potato famine. This sticker refers to a song sung by Rangers supporters, reminding the Irish Catholic population that the famine ended a while ago and inviting them to return to their ancestral homeland. P&O is a ferry company which sails between Scotland and Ireland. I really don't think that this sticker is sanctioned by P&O...
Today's alternatives: a few shots of the bread factory upon whose railings that sticker is stuck, and a shot of the bicycle polis. The latter is probably highly illegal and liable to see me banged up at Her Majesty's pleasure. In the event of such an occurrence, I may call upon my fellow blippers as character witnesses. Though, given that you know me only by my blips, that may not be wise...
Happy Easter everyone!
