At our allotment
This was the first real day at the allotment this year. Been there to collect vegetables over the winter but now we're into March time has come to get things moving.
I intend to take a regular series of shots from this position over the coming season to show how the plot develops. More of a record for me as much as for you!
Looking at the plot, the area to the right forground, where the leeks currently are will be potatoes. The area to the left which is currently bare is where the legumes - runner beans, peas, broadbeans and French beans will be.
Behind the potato patch, where all the netting is currently protecting our brassicas will be the roots and leeks - beetroot, parsnips etc.
To the left of them will be the brassicas - cabbage, swede, cavalo nero, purple spouting brocolli. Between the 2 rear beds will be garlic and shallots.
There is a small bed between the 4 main beds - this is where the strawberries are and where the courgettes and lettuces will be in due course. There is also some garlic there too.
Along the fence to the left is fruit - gooseberries, blackcurrants, an apple tree, a pear tree (both small trees) and rhubarb.
The plot is only half a plot really - so much demand for allotments has meant that when one became available it was subdivided into 2 half plots. Can't really complain as we would have had to wait longer that the 3 years otherwise.
Will keep you posted.
