Bougainvillea flower

It's not a large flower - truth be told, it's a very small one. And it's hardly striking, either - simple 5-petal shaped white flower with a single yellow stamen in the middle. Meh.
So for quite a pleasant change, the petals steal the show from the flower. In essence, they're simply bigger and a lot more interesting.
Even when they're nestled amongst different coloured petals on one of the many different Bougainvillea species, they retain the same colour - petals and stamen - and the same diminutive size. Even the stem tends to stay pretty much the same amorphous shape and nondescript colour.
The petals, on the other hand, loom large and lovely and lush, with curvaceous contours and delicate spider-web veins, forming a wrap-around curtain of amazing colour. 
An outstanding albeit flashy show like that beats a pint-sized bloom any old time.
