Whoa-oh Black Betty.....

.... Jan’s new van!

I woke up this morning with the ear worm of ‘Black Betty’ and it’s stuck with me all day.

We’ve had a busy day; starting with a visit from my local Occupational therapist to see how I’m managing with the steps at the front of the house since the hand rail was fitted. We had a couple of goes up and down and she was happy that I’m doing ok.

Off then on a road trip with Mr A to collect his new work van.
He’s been after a specific one for about two years but the automatic versions have been so rare to find. Even during the lockdowns, when one has come up for sale, it’s been sold as soon as he’s made enquiries.
He finally found one that ticked all but one of the boxes on his wish list (no tinted back windows), but it was in Wales!
I decided to take a risk and tag along, as I’ve only left the house twice in the last month & both times were for hospital appointments!
For the sake of my sanity, I needed a change of scenery and some fresh air.
It was a gorgeous day and while Mr A completed the paperwork in the dealership, I had a bit of a walk around a the car park to keep my step count up and stretch my legs ready for the ride home.

We were recommended a local sandwich shop by the salesman, so Mr A called in and got us a little picnic lunch that we ate by a lake on the way home.

The van is actually a 9 seater minibus and is huge which is perfect for all Mr A’s camera kit and road trips with Laura and Steve when restrictions are lifted.
The seats fold, recline or come out completely, so he’s got plenty of choice when it comes to configuration. He’s already thinking of taking the back 3 seats out when he does Superbikes in summer, so he can sleep in the back (as he doesn’t need to take any equipment with him) instead of paying for overpriced (and usually awful, noisy) hotels. There are always camping facilities at the race circuits so he’s fine for daily showers and the loo!

Getting in and out is a bit of a struggle for me with the cab being so high, but with a bit of practice it will get easier. Once my frozen shoulder is sorted, it will make it easier still as I will be able to use the grab handle over the door.

Mr A isn’t into naming cars, but given my ear worm and the fact it’s black, I’ve named her Betty ;-)
