It's time for ... Things In My House Thursday.
Today, E is for empty space, sort of. When we bought the house, this space, under a window in the side wall of the living room, contained a gas fire. This looked about as peculiar in this location as you might imagine it would. Our house is 1970s and doesn't have a chimney so to be fair lacks an obvious spot for a gas fire, but still, under a window? Weird.
After a short while the fire stopped working and we got a gas engineer in to cap off the supply so we could remove it. According to him it wasn't just an aesthetically bad decision to put it under a window but could have been dangerous due to the possibility of waste fumes getting back into the room.
The removal of the fire left a hole and the fire surround, but as we didn't want to plaster and redecorate at that point, the Bear just made a cover for it. This spot now seems to get used for letters and paperwork that haven't been dealt with, in this case a Tesco receipt from last night's delivery. The pot in front at floor level, and all but one of the ones on the windowsill were made by our friend Johnny P.
