A Little General

In 1986 the one child per family policy was firmly in place

They were nicknamed  Little Generals because they were considered to be spoiled and got their own way.

Certainly the boys, as here, were often dressed as generals

There were also terrible stories/rumours of female infanticide.

Now I read that China has a population crisis with too few youngsters to look after grandparents. College pupils are to have lessons in "romance" to encourage more marriage and children.
