Mixing

I'm recording the dawn chorus most mornings at present, usually at its best from around 06:00 to 06:30. I'm having problems with various forms of noise though, and the signal is not very strong. I've done some filtering of the resultant recordings on the computer, but I'm also trying to improve the recording - in this case I was testing an external microphone and preamp/mixer before recording the data on a computer. It didn't really make much difference though!
