Conimicut Point Lighthouse
Passing Conimicut Point Lighthouse as we wound our way up Naragansett Bay to Providence, RI today.
After bad weather and then bitter cold yesterday, we finally reached Block Island on a calm sea and in warm sunshine.
By coincidence sailing over the waters where the America's Cup was contested, until the US lost to Australia in '83, on the same day that New Zealand has successfully defended the trophy, on the other side of the planet.
The trip up Naragansett Bay was a good sightseeing tour, seeing Fort Adams, the New York Yacht Club's Harbour Court, passing under the Newport Bridge and marvelling at the large (but very empty) Gilded Age mansions along the shores.
The houses get a bit more modest further up the harbour and the modern skyline of Providence appeared, with our eventual mooring a couple of miles from downtown.
Feels strange to stop moving.
A few more pics of the tour in the extras...>>>
