Mackerel Sky

This is our first walk along Deganwy beach since December, and it’s wonderful to return. Late that winter afternoon, we watched a beautiful sunset before returning home to the announcement of our Christmas lockdown.

Today, it’s very different. The mid-March sun is still two hours from setting, and it’s almost warm despite the chilly wind.

We walk along the coastal path, slightly above the steep bank of boulders that gives way to the estuary sands, shining now,  wet as the tide recedes.

A little further, and the path climbs gently through the sand dunes, marram grass rustling in the wind. It’s here, between two sandy hillocks, that I stop and look out towards the headlands where the Carneddau end, each one dissolving further into the evening haze.

There it is: today’s Blip. A triangle of sand and shimmering sea, framed by sunlit marram grass, and topped off by a mackerel sky. It’s good to be back.

My first attempt at the Wide Wednesday challenge - and I hope it counts as ‘framing’! Thanks to RSD Photography for hosting.
