I watched this morning as the sparrows flew backwards and forwards inspecting the holes in the nest box. Eventually they started bringing bits of grass back with them. Some of the pieces were a good foot long, so they went inside and carried on pulling it in. It was just like watching spaghetti disappearing inside someone's mouth! If you look at this large you can just see some grass in its beak.

This multiple occupancy nest box used to be a window box but, after a bit of adaptation, for the last couple of years it has been up on the pergola and strictly for the birds!
