Why is this tree not overgrown with ivy.

We have a weeping willow in front of the house. A cross has also been nailed to that trunk by one of our neighbours. According to him, the tree would not be cut down because of that cross. And the good thing was, he used to remind us, that we would remember him forever. Well, there you have it.
