Circling Overhead
Open water appeared in the centre of the lake today, circled overhead by a flock of gulls excited by the prospects for food no doubt. A shelf of ice still extends over a large area and the geese retreated onto it when I approached the shore.
It was a lot colder though, than of late, with a biting wind that created ripples in the enlarged ice pools along the lake shore. The wind caused the geese to bunker down tucking their heads under their wings. Strange interlocking V-shaped clouds gave some interest to the sky, possibly an indication of snow that is in the forecast.
