Blackthorn Blossom
The Blackthorn is generally first in the hedgerows to blossom.
The flower before they leaf: which is called 'hysteranthous'. It's a trick some plants try to attract more bees and perhaps it assists wind pollination too.
It's always a pleasure to see the white of the Blackthorns in an otherwise dark hedge with its promise of sloes to come.
