juvenile peregine

The peregrines have been scarce lately due to problems with work carried out in the mill which I have reported on a few weeks ago. Although the work has now stopped the peregrines are not returning to roost and eat as frequently as they used to. In fact the old adult female is now certainly gone, the reason will probably never be known butte may nave been chased off her patch by a different young adult that was around for a couple of weeks but has also now disappeared. We appear to be left with the young adult male that arrived last year and one of last years young. The male had been chasing off the juvenile mercilessly for weeks but that has now stopped and they seem to sit together well now. The latest surprise is the juvenile appears to be making mating calls suggesting it may be female and without anyone else around the adult male is responding calmly. Of course the juvenile is 2 years away from breeding age but the complication is the male may be her father. It's only a maybe because he arrived half way through mating season last year and whilst he was seen mating the old female had also been mating with the previous male that died after being shot. It's like a peregrine soap !
