Bin Men

Mono Monday: Bin Men

A pair of lesser black backed gulls taking a break on a rooftop and enjoying the sun.  Although they are a threatened species internationally, we have a lot of them in the UK, and they can be a bit of a nuisance in urban areas as they are quite clever and aggressive.  They are experts at raiding the refuse bins in parks and seem to delight in stealing food from the unwary.

It this wasn't a mono challenge you would be able to see their yellow feet, which is one of the things that distinguishes them from the bigger great black backed gulls (which have pink feet), as do herring gulls.

I grew up calling all gulls  "seagulls" although I have come to learn that the term has no scientific relevance.  Not that this matters when they pinch your chips - or defecate on your jacket or your nice clean car.  Then they revert to being bl**dy seagulls once again :-)

Thanks as ever to our Mono Monday Host - this week it is Beckett and more entries can be found here
