My mother ...

... in 1913 when she was less than 12 months old.

Her father was a sergeant-major in the British Army in India. She was born at the huge army base in Multan (now Pakistan) just after many of the camp personnel had moved to the hill stations for the summer. As soon as possible she was taken north and her birth registered at Dalhousie. She left India in 1915 when her father was transferred to the Western Front (he was seriously wounded, but survived).

The other child is her brother James, born in 1911. The identities of the Indian attendants have never been known to me.

So long ago.

My mother died in 2005 six weeks before her 93rd birthday.
