Oscar Night/Day

And explaining the reason I was visiting Minion, Simon and Em on Sunday night, it was Oscar Night! Owen and Mark there too with Blips to match, and the group was finished off with Fi, Zara and Kate. And Minion, every now and again!

All in all it was a very fun evening, starting at 8:30 for the keen with a viewing of 'Ted' and then the videos nominated for Best Animated Short (yay for Paperman!). Everyone had turned up by the 11:30 coverage start and the red carpet followed. While we waited for the actual ceremony Simon handed out Oscars Bingo cards (Owen blipped his) and we also had a sweepstake going.

The ceremony itself was great fun and worth waiting for, Seth MacFarlane was a proper mix of charming host/irreverent host and there were some great comedy moments to mix in with all the usual chaos. The one thing that grated with a lot of people was the Jaws theme and cutting of the microphone on the VFX winners, just when they were mentioning that their company had gone bankrupt - so, probably not a shining moment to remember! Better was when Tarantino won the Best Screenplay Oscar, fooled the orchestra into thinking he had finished and then kept talking over his 'victorious winner is walking off the stage speech' (although a lot of people thought he was being cut off too - tsk!)

It all finished rather neatly about 5:30am, and by that point I'd managed to win the bingo and sweepstake prizes, making it my second-most successful Oscars ever* - a quick cycle ride later and it was home for a lazy day in bed!

*I last watched the ceremony when RotK took everything as I had to compile a portfolio for a uni course, which I did, and then spent all day struggling to stay awake in lectures. Then, instead of sleeping, I went and won the pub quiz at the Ram Bar on campus with my friends, netting us a cool £150, and then we went to another pub quiz at The Eagles, we were the only students who went, and won again with me getting us the money prize by correctly naming all the Oscars RotK had won earlier!
