Neal...In For the Steal

Here's how it goes down. Neal, the seagull hides on a nearby dock, watching as Perry the pelican dives in for his breakfast. He waits until Perry resurfaces, and then lands on his head. Why would he do that?

The pelican has to reposition his catch, and has to get most of that water out of his beak. The seagull knows this, and waits for the pelican to open his mouth. Then, he leaves the head, and dives near (and sometimes into) the big birds mouth.

Sometimes, he succeeds in the steal, forcing Perry the pelican to start all over.

The pelican is named after my grandson Merrick.

In other news, happy birthday to our S-I-L Joy. A group of us went out to dinner, and then had cake and ice cream at one of their neighbor's houses. Joy really is full of joy.
