Come on you Whites
Herring gulls look alike of course but I am sure this one is always here, looking at the cruise ships- five today.
Very interesting talk on Zoom tonight hosted by the Westhoughton Local History Group (Bolton) of which I am a member. The subject was the history of Bolton Wanderers and the Burnden Park Disaster 9 March 1946. On Tuesday it was 75 years since the event. The speaker was Phil Mason, the Wanderers Chaplain. It was very poignant and moving. One thing I learned since I left Bolton - research by Mark Metcalf, football historian, recently proved that Kenny Davenport of Bolton scored the first ever league goal in any league in the world - v Derby County 8/9/1888. Research showed that the Wanderers game kicked off earlier than the previously attributed first goal and match- a goal scored by Aston Villa. The Bolton scorer was KennyDavenport. Since I left the town they have erected a blue plaque on the site of the original ground commemorating the goal.

The Whites are doing well so the Chaplain was asked to put a good word in for their continued success.
