The dropped stitch

a chance meeting

Spent the morning driving round South Ronaldsay, then ventured across the barriers in the afternoon to find some addresses on the Orkney mainland. First thing in the morning, and coinciding with the high tide, the Barriers had been closed, so I wanted to wait quite a while before crossing and then nip back before the next high tide.

The encounter with this little herd was at Burwick, at the southernmost tip of the island of South Ronaldsay. I haven't seen them in this field before. Pretty muddy under foot, but they have a good view.

Later in the day I stopped to speak to a dog who seemed to be out on its own for a walk and in danger of being run over. The owner's shouts for him were lost in the strong wind, and I think the windy day was also sending him a bit wild. He greeted me as a long lost friend and we waited together for his owner to come along the road.
A bonus was that she could tell me the location of the house I was looking for - it was hers!
