Braced for the storm
Another two day blip session, here is today's and a backblip for yesterday.
We seem to be in a really windy period just now, which is a bit unusual for this part of the world.
We had friends over earlier in the day - their lunch, our breakfast. I'd started baking the honey crispbread I prepared last night, but baked what I'd rolled out and stopped the bake for our walk. Then they said they didn't want to walk - it was too windy. Wimps :-) !
So we ate semlor that they'd fetched and various sorts of bread from our store, drank strong Swedish coffee, and chatted in front of a roaring stove, that really was roaring because of that wind. It was lovely to have them here.
After they'd left we got dressed up and went out for our fresh air. After several days of going out and feeling wind-chilled we finally seemed to get the clothing right. The wind howled but it didn't get through our layers. In fact by the time I got home I was actually a bit too warm!
In the picture we have just reached the edge of our village. Jan has been hit by a gust and is bracing to stay upright. The snow cloud is pouring across the road, around her feet. I think she's taking a movie with her phone. There's a real colour difference between the old snow and the new!
This is just the start of this next storm which will blow until Saturday. We are promised gusts of 70 kmh and 30 hours of snow, not heavy snow but over 30 hours it's going to build up!
Back from the walk I finished my baking, experimenting with adding crushed almonds and hazel nuts, and chopped dried cranberries to two of the rounds, trying to copy some delicious bread we bought in town.
Now it's dark, and the wind has increased as promised. The house shakes slightly in some of the gusts and I think the wind may wake us a bit tonight, but the house has been here for 100 years so we've no real worries.
I've become slightly addicted to a newscast from Iceland - The Reykjavik Grapevine. The presenter walks around with his dog, often on the hills but today on the streets of Reykjavik and chats as he goes, giving the latest news about the threatening eruption and Covid. He has a beautiful laid back style ("No need to stress about the forthcoming eruption, unless....").
