Look what sun here on the Essex side of the Thames Estuary and a bank of black cloud over Kent does to the sea - turns it to silver.  High winds overnight and most of today dislodged a ridge tile from Mum's roof.  A panicking neighbour threatened to call the Fire Brigade - bit alarmist!  I think the days of them rescuing cats from trees and turning out with a truck mounted turntable ladder remain a kindly reminder of the 50's.  Tenants were calm and patient,  had advised neighbours to move cars and signposted the danger for pedestrians.  Managing agents managed to get a contractor to call by and remove.  Panic over!  Roof was replaced in 2018 with 10 yr warranty but company has not returned my calls yet.  Previous roof was the original I believe from 1900.  New roof only 2 1/2 years!
