Technique Rather Than Art
Back to wet & very windy, not a day for outdoor photography. Decided today's task would be something I've been putting off, i.e. learn to do focus stacking properly. I experimented with it once four or five years ago, focussing at a few different depths by eye & using CombineZP to put the images together - tolerable, but a bit haphazard. I acquired a focussing rail a couple of months ago but so far had only used it to improve the framing without readjusting the tripod. Time to put it to its proper use!
Today's effort was a purely technical exercise. The tiny conifer cones are 8 or 9 mm across & deep and the picture here is a result of 10 images at approx 1 mm depths. Not as difficult as I thought! With a bit of additional practice & a better understanding of the software - watch this space....
