Fountainbridge Library - Happy Birthday
This morning's run route went out along Fountainbridge to Ashley Terrace then back via the canal and Tollcross. This is the front of Fountainbridge Library on Dundee Street. There's been a library on this site since 1897 but the original was demolished in 1937. This building was designed by John Alexander Grant and the sculptor Charles d'Orville Pilkington Jackson was responsible for the carving above the main door and the low relief panels on the facade. The style of the building is art-deco infused neo-classical. I think the building and it's carvings are fabulous. It's beautiful inside too! The library opened on the 11th March 1941 so it will be 80 years old tomorrow!
I spent the balance of the day deleting photos which now take up 30% of the PC's memory! I can see that my fairly poor file management over the years is going to make this a long job!
