Last Hurrah
As far as flowers are concerned, the crocus season here is almost over. These Crocus kosaninii are certainly the last potful I will show this spring. Sadly, it will truly be their last hurrah as they show clear signs of having a virus disease. The variable veining/streaking in the petals is one sign and some flowers have less petals or twisted petals, more signs. I've hand pollinated them in the hope of getting some seed as usually the seed produced will be free of the virus. Either way, they'll be kept away from the others now and will be disposed of this summer. To keep them risks the virus being passed to other precious plants I grow.
A scrappy sort of day. Two spells at work totalled just over two hours, a windy dog walk as the weather changes, a few odd jobs done. Katie had some ginger biscuits to share so Jamie met her on another exercise jaunt this afternoon which ensured he got a dose of fresh air too. Delicious and very gingery cookies :-)
