Ilha de Santa Maria

Passing Santa Maria, the southernmost of the Azores.

I was lucky with my timing.

Having peeked out of a porthole before heading to  the gym, all that could be seen was fog and a few hundred yards of grey sea. An hour later (taking a run around the helideck) the sun was out and the clouds cleared enough to discern part of the island appearing from the murk. Another while to shower and collect the camera and it had cleared enough to take this shot, only for the cloud to clamp back down for good half an hour later.

No whales. :(

Next land Block Island or Long Island...a long way away yet.
