The institution, opened in 1863 at a cost of £13,000, provided care for minors between the age of 5 and 21.

In 1948 the facility became known as the Royal Scottish National Hospital (RSNH).

A passing dog-walker said he thought that these were administration blocks for the hospital, but a quick trawl on line suggests they may have been wards.

Beautifully sculptural and designed by FT Pilkington who also did Barclay Parish Church on the Meadows in Edinburgh.

It was abandoned but structurally sound in 1989. Permission to tender for its demolition was granted in 2012

It appears the owners have did the old put a fence round it, ignore it, wait till it's falling down then demolish it because it's dangerous trick.
