The fallen tree

Last week I was unable to go along the cycle path as this enormous tree had fallen right across it. It has now been cut into large pieces and moved out of the way. There is certainly lots of firewood and kindling there for anyone prepared to remove it, although it's about half a mile from the nearest road.

A passing walker said it had been struck by lightning, although I'm not so sure. We haven't had any thundery weather recently, and the core of the tree did look rather rotten.
