Not the Parade
This year's Mardi Gras is a closed and ticketed event at the Sydney Showground due to Covid-19.
Yesterday the activist group Pride in Protest was granted approval to rally and walk down Oxford St to Hyde Park in the afternoon, a bit of an alternative to the main event.
A good time for old people to check out the scene and grab some shots.
There were supposed to be no more than 900 marchers and the emphasis was not so much on glitzy costumes as serious issues.
They were extremely loud and vocal and it seemed to me there was a grab bag of issues they were demonstrating for, beyond gay pride.
They don't accept the existence or presence of police at any event
so it was all pretty hard core, for Sydney anyway, and the police were out in force.
I've included a few extras and will put up a flickr set later.
I've turned comments back on. After two months and two previous attempts, I've realised, yet again, that it just doesn't work.
So I'll just have to feel guilty about being a poor commenter.
