Lines in the sand

I've spent the weekend in Thurso helping my girlfriend with the RSPB beached bird survey. Each year volunteers walk along the UK's beaches, checking for dead birds washed up on the tide line and for signs of oiling on the beach.

I saw these ringed plover while we were walking along Sandside beach near Reay. They just stood there on one leg and were pretty reluctant to hop away, so I crept up and managed to get this shot at full zoom...
