Grotto Bridge
We took a walk along the River Almond from Cramond Brig (Bridge) on the north bank as far as the Grotto Bridge. This would have allowed crossing from Craigiehall Temple to Craigiehall house, which is now MOD property. In olden times there was indeed a grotto, which I suspect is now a ruin, in the trees to the left on the opposite bank; a statue, a pillar and a monument are also marked nearby on the 1892-1914 maps.
Returning on the south bank we had a fine view of the old Cramond Brig with reflection on the river (extra photo).
Along the way we passed several others taking the air, all quite affable, we chatted to a photographer, who had seen a kingfisher, we both saw a dipper and later we saw a grey wagtail, among the more common birds.
It was quite a cold day so we were glad to be home for hot drinks and lunch.
