Why?

Does a cat sleep on top of hard lumpy books when there are so many more soft and spacious places to sleep? Not to mention actual cat beds! The wisdom(?) of cats is unfathomable. I've put a towel over the books because Alfie has decided that they are a good scratching board - in addition to all the other purpose-made scratching boards that they have, of course. 

Now on annual leave for a week, and I spent today recharging my batteries.
