Trams Update

They are getting on at a fair lick with quite a lot of digging, filling in, concreting and track laying but with this bit of Leith Walk being a bit problematic. The two humps exposed above are the covers for cable drums from about the 1870’s cable hauled trams going up to Edinburgh and indicated the limit of the City trams but in order to travel down to Leith people had to get off and transfer to the electric powered trams of the Leith system. Slightly further up from the drums is a section running over a railway tunnel that used to carry trains to Granton from Edinburgh Waverley via Abbeymount and Easter Rd. These ‘complex’ issues are known to the contractors so we’ll see how they solve them.
