World book day
I seem always to have been surrounded by books. Mum insisted that I had a library ticket well before I started school, in spite of the librarian declaring that there was no point in my joining the library when I couldn’t even read. I did the same when Miss Beewatcher was a year old, and initially got the same response !
I can remember these books being read to me, and enjoying them very much. Four of the books here are the ones I had in the 1950s, the others are original editions from the same era. They’re simple little stories, charmingly illustrated, maybe ready to read to grandchildren one day. I also have a collection of Alison Uttley’s Little Grey Rabbit books from a slightly earlier time.
I do have a Kindle with enough capacity to store umpteen books in a slim paperback-sized device, but there’s nothing like the pleasure of reading a real book.
