The second half of life..

Dotterel Family

The weather looked more promising today, though the skies were still cloudy and grey.  Headed down the road a little to take a look-see at the Rapaura Watergardens which J had recommended and was very disappointed to find they were shut.  The sign on the gate said 'due to adverse weather conditions and to keep visitors safe' but a chap at the dairy I went to  later said they hadn't been open for a few days and simply haven't been getting enough people through to make opening worthwhile.  I'm not sure whether I'll give it another go tomorrow or not.  It did start to rain whilst I stood and swore at the sign, but not enough to stop me exploring a little further up the road where this (extra) kauri proudly stands.  It must have a girth of over 4m but whether it was bigger or smaller doesn't matter as it was impressive.  It's called the 'Square Kauri' though I could only see one 'corner' as such.

Tootied around deciding what I'd do this evening (lapping waves v shower & power......the latter won) and the place I'd chosen to tooty at just happened to have some dotterels.  They seemed remarkably fearless and I was surprised they did  their 'hunting' relatively close to me.  I was pleased with this range of shots - bubby, who still has baby feathers around his neck, an adult in flight and an adult with it's 'catch-of-the-day'....a grub.

All showered and ready for bed now.  Looking forward to a day at Ray's Rest tomorrow.
