Why did the turkey...?

I had to take a quick pic of this wild turkey crossing the road. The other car slowed down and let him cross safely. I noticed another lurking on the other side of the road, waiting to cross.
When I was younger, wild turkeys were very rare. I’m so happy that now they are so common that they’ve become a common sight.
