Benches
Yesterday Chris moved these benches from the corner behind the Magnolia trees so that I could clean them up.
The corner has become over grown and the benches and table were making it difficult to weed and tidy. We created the area for shade when our neighbours cut down the Oak Tree which had pushed through our boundary wall. There was a fir tree nearby giving shade and that is also now gone. Effectively we rarely used it so have moved the table down to the patio area next to the conservatory.
When we got back from our M&S shop this morning I went out to oil the newly scrubbed benches. So now they are ready for new homes.
One is going to my son who has just enough space in front of his house for it and the other will hopefully eventually sit on the terrace outside my daughters new house in Bath.
They may not seem very special but they were bought from the Congregational church when the auditorium bench seating was replaced by chairs. In those non Health and Safety days you could squash lots more people onto benches, especially children, and I’m sure mine will have sat on these to watch village pantomimes many years ago. (These have been shortened). Quite fitting that they get them now I think, they will be appreciated
You can also see ‘son of Oak Tree’ against the wall at the back of the garden, grown from an acorn of the original.
I like things that have a story.
