The Pineapple.

One of the oddest buildings around is this carved stone pineapple.
Originally part of the walled garden for Dunmore House (now a ruin) the south facing wall supported a long glasshouse which was used to grow, wait for it, pineapples!
Remember that this was a time - mid 18th century - when a pineapple was a thing of wonder and a table decoration, not really for actual consumption.
The glasshouse has long gone and the garden is now and orchard full of a variety of apple trees with snowdrops growing round their trunks. (See MaggieD’s blip)
The building has now been re-purposed into holiday lets, at least once we can go of holiday again!
